Markus ‘Mookie’ Betts competed at Cooperstown Dreams Park in 2004 and 2005. His first trip was with the Tennessee Blast (TN) during Week 4, helping his team win the Around the Horn Plus with a time of 25.92. Mookie’s second trip was Week 7 with the Tennessee Xtreme (TN), reaching the Sweet 16.

Mookie graduated from John Overton High School (Nashville, TN) where he was a member of the bowling, basketball and baseball teams. Mookie was named the Tennessee Boys Bowler of the Year in 2010. On the basketball court, he was named MVP of the District 12-AAA league (2011), Class AAA All-City Player of the Year (2011), and MVP of the District 12-AAA tournament (2010). On the diamond, Mookie was a standout, earning a scholarship to the University of Tennessee (Knoxville, TN). However, he rescinded his college commitment after the Boston Red Sox selected Mookie in the 2011 Major League Baseball Amateur draft.

Mookie made his major league debut on June 29, 2014. He helped the Red Sox clinch the 2018 World Series championship with Mookie earning American League MVP honors and becoming the first player in Major League Baseball history to win MVP, Silver Player, Silver Slugger, Gold Glove, batting title and the World Series in the same season. Prior to the 2020 season, Mookie was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers where he won his second World Series, over the Atlanta Braves. He clinched his third World Series title in 2024 when the Dodgers beat the New York Yankees and his fourth in 2025 with the Dodgers defeating the Toronto Blue Jays.
