Joey Ortiz competed at Cooperstown Dreams Park with three separate teams. His first trip was with the So Cal Diamond Dawgs (CA) in 2009, Tournament 3. Joey’s next appearance was Tournament 2 with Team Phenom (CA) in 2011, winning Around the Horn Plus (20.56), and finished pool play undefeated. He played his final Cooperstown Dreams Park games with the OC Thunder (CA) during Tournament 5 in 2011 and reached the semi-finals of the single-elimination tournament.

Joey graduated from Pacifica High School (Garden Grove, CA) where he was a member of the baseball team and recorded a .417 batting average and .969 fielding percentage his senior year. He continued his education and baseball career at New Mexico State University (Le Cruces, NM). During his freshman year, he played 54 games with 53 starts at third base, posted a .979 fielding percentage and batted .306. Joey finished his sophomore season a First Team All-Conference as the team’s starting shortstop while his junior year he batted .422 with eight home runs, 84 RBIs, 12 stolen bases, and 25 doubles. 

Joey was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2019 Major League Baseball draft. He made his Major League debut on April 27, 2023. Joey was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers prior to the 2024 season and helped the franchise clinch the 2025 National League Central division.
