Austin Hedges competed twice at Cooperstown Dreams Park during Tournament 11 in 2004 with the Niguel Rockets (CA) and in 2005 with the Aztecs Baseball (CA).

Austin, a catcher, attended and played baseball at Junipero Serra Catholic High School (San Juan Capistrano, CA). He committed to continue his education and play baseball at UCLA (Los Angeles, CA) but he opted to go professional when he was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the second round of the 2011 Major League Baseball draft. Austin made his Major League debut on May 4, 2015.

Austin was traded to the Cleveland Guardians on August 31, 2020 where he remained until December of 2022 when he signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates. On August 1, 2023, he was traded to the Texas Rangers and then found his way back to the Cleveland Guardians in December of 2023. Austin and the Guardians clinched the 2024 American League Central division.
