After two collegiate seasons, he did make the leap to professional when the Yankees chose him again in the 2020 Major League baseball draft. Austin made his Major League debut on September 1, 2023. He helped the Yankees reach the 2024 World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. On March 27, 2025, Austin hit a leadoff home run, becoming the first Yankee to hit a leadoff homer on opening day and the first catcher in Major League baseball history to do the same.
